Tecpetrol, the Argentine company that controls about 15% of the country's shale gas production, will soon put a new drilling rig into operation at Fortín de Piedra, the company’s CEO, Ricardo Markous, told industry executives in Houston.

At least two major projects to produce and export liquefied natural gas (LNG) are currently under discussion: one involving Malaysia’s Petronas together with YPF for the construction of floating plants, and another by Tecpetrol, which could include modular onshore facilities.

The oil company Pluspetrol is interested in participating in two LNG projects in Argentina, where the Vaca Muerta formation is located, said Julián Escuder, the company’s manager in the country, on Thursday.

The drilling rig that Tecpetrol will use will be supplied by Nabors Industries, Markous added.
