The Brazilian oil company Petrobras announced the early operation of a new offshore platform with the capacity to extract up to 100,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) and 5 million cubic meters of natural gas.
The Maria Quitéria platform began production this Tuesday in the Jubarte field, which is part of the area known as Parque das Baleias, located in the Campos Basin, in the deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
The start of the platform's operations, initially planned for next year according to the 2024-2028 strategic plan, was brought forward to accelerate projects, which is one of the main goals of the current administration, according to the company’s statement to EFE.
With eight production wells and another eight injection wells, the platform is equipped with technologies that allow it to reduce greenhouse gases by around 24%.
Currently, three other platforms are operating in Parque das Baleias (P-57, P-58, and Cidade de Anchieta).
With the start of operations of the Maria Quitéria platform, this unit will represent about 40% of the total production in the Jubarte field.
Petrobras reached a total oil and natural gas production of 2.78 million bpd in 2023, representing a 3.7% increase compared to the company's production in 2022.
According to the company’s strategic plan, the Brazilian oil company expects to reach a production of 3.2 million bpd by 2028.
