The OECD has been the setting this week for a negotiation meeting aimed at eliminating export credits for fossil fuel projects, where "significant progress" has been made, sources close to the meeting told EFE.

These discussions, the sources explained, will continue, although no specific timeline has been established.

The goal is to reach an agreement for the countries involved in this framework (which includes more than just OECD member states) to commit to ensuring that their export credit agencies stop providing subsidies for overseas oil and gas projects.

The negotiations have taken place simultaneously with COP29 in Baku, which is currently stalled, primarily over commitments to increase climate financing.

All this is unfolding in a context of uncertainty and skepticism about the continuity of U.S. policy in this field, as Donald Trump is set to assume the U.S. presidency on January 20. Trump has announced his intention to boost hydrocarbon projects.
